[Stanza A] I sought to flee from the world, and the world came and knocked on the door, and I did not open, I did not open. I did not open, I did not open. The world grew angry and pounded on the door, and I did not open.

[בית ב׳] רכן העולם ודחק פתקי אהבה מתחת לדלת ולא פתחתי עשה העולם את עצמו מתרחק וחיכיתי רגע ועוד אחד והעולם היה שקט כפי שלא היה מעולם ואיני יודע אם באמת האמנתי או שמא רציתי ללכת שולל ופתחתי את הדלת לרווחה והעולם נבהל

[Stanza B] The world bent down and slid love notes under the door, and I did not open. The world made as if to retreat. And I waited a moment and another, and the world was as quiet as it had never been. And I do not know whether I truly believed, or whether I wanted to be deceived. And I opened the door wide, and the world was startled.
