זהו סיפור עצוב על ילד
אחר כך נער
היום כבר איש
הוא לא שמע קולם של אלה
שהזהירו הוא נשאר אדיש
הוא לא שמע מה שאמרו לו
לכן היום הוא בעסק ביש
This is a sad story about a boy,
then a teenager,
today already a man.
He didn’t hear the voices of those
who warned; he remained indifferent.
He didn’t listen to what they told him,
and so today he’s in a bad fix.
אמרו לו שהחיים זה לא משחק
וקונצים פה אין
אמרו לו שהוא מוכרח להיות חזק
כי אוי לו למסכן
אמרו לו שיהיה כבר מעשי
רמזו לו שיתבגר
אז הוא לא למד שום לקח
ואין לו שכל גם להצטער
They told him that life is not a game,
and there are no tricks here.
They told him he must be strong,
for woe to the wretched.
They told him to be practical already,
hinted that he should grow up.
But he learned no lesson,
and hasn’t the sense even to regret.
עוד שהיה כולו רק ילד
בבית הספר העממי
עוד כשתלה בשמי התכלת
מבט עצוב קצת וחולמני
כבר אז עינו הייתה פוזלת
אל חבצלת האדמונית
When he was still just a child
in the elementary school,
when he would still lift to the azure sky
a gaze a bit sad and dreamy,
even then his eye was already straying
toward the crimson lily.
אמרו לו שיתרכז בלימודים
כי זה החשוב
אמרו לו שמבנות וריקודים
יהיה סוף עצוב
אמרו לו שיהיה כבר מעשי
רמזו לו שיתגבר
אז הוא לא למד שום לקח
אין לו שכל גם להצטער
They told him to focus on his studies,
because that’s what matters.
They told him that from girls and dancing
there would be a sad end.
They told him to be practical already,
hinted that he should toughen up.
So he learned no lesson;
he hasn’t the sense even to regret.
גם כשהלך לכדורגל
הוא לא חיפש לו רק ניצחון
ובהתלהבות של עגל
ויתר על שקט וביטחון
ועד היום הוא עם הדגל
ועם הצבע הלא נכון
Even when he went to football,
he wasn’t looking only for victory.
With a calf’s enthusiasm
he gave up peace and security.
And to this day he’s with the flag
and with the wrong color.

is no bargain.
They told him he’s getting himself into trouble here,
and there’s no way out.
