Hello, Mr. Elbaz.
When I first called you,
I thought you were probably a nice, God-fearing kid who would help my mother with a computer problem.
I never imagined you’d saddle her with a new computer for almost nine thousand shekels, including VAT.
And all my mother wants is to browse a bit on Facebook,
to get an email or two from Uncle Willy.
She certainly doesn’t need a monster computer that could suit NASA.
And you, kissing the mezuzah back and forth,
as if you and she are best buddies,
shoved the sales pitch at her as if you had no family.
Tell me,
would you also recommend to your surfing grandma two professional Creative speakers and a UPS system with four gigs of ROM and 500 gigs of RAM, or the other way around?
What can I tell you, I expected that someone named Elbaz would have
a bit of a family tone in his heart, some moral element and not just a commercial argument.
I expected you’d see an older woman, remember your grandpa Masudi, feel a pinch in your heart,
and offer her something suitable.
But all you saw were shekels.
And here is apparently the big secret:
the Elbaz of today is apparently not the Elbaz of yesterday.
Mr. Elbaz, I promised I wouldn’t write about this on my blog,
but I didn’t promise there wouldn’t be a song about it.
