Is it well with you, my uncle? Esther sent to Mordechai.
I heard bad tidings; they have reached me.
Why have you put on sackcloth and ashes on your head?
Here, my uncle, I have sent you fine garments.
I will not slumber nor sleep, Mordechai sent to her,
until my cry reaches the King of all life.
A garment with a crown is prepared for a time of splendor.
Our brothers are in great distress, and you are hiding in the palace.
Esther, with a crown on her head and clothed in royalty,
always listened to her uncle who saved her from being orphaned,
and even this time she sent to him in secret:
at the king’s gate—what does Mordechai seek?
A Persian from the seed of Amalek plots his schemes
with the king’s ring and over his treasuries.
Come to the king, plead with him,
that he annul the decree that went out from before him.
How shall I go to the king? cried Esther.
Precisely at this time it is fitting that I hide.
If he is of the seed of Amalek, how can I prevail over him,
if even Moses our teacher’s hands grew heavy?
Every man and every woman of his servants
fear the law and do not transgress it:
whoever comes to the king, to the inner court,
if not called to the king—one law for him: to be put to death,
unless he extends to him the golden scepter.
And I have not been called to him for thirty days.
Do not fear, my daughter, the sons of man;
are you not the daughter of Him who spoke and the world came to be?
If you keep silent after what has been declared,
salvation will come, and you and your father’s house will perish.
Do not imagine in your soul to escape the mission.
Who knows if for just such a time you have attained royalty?
Esther commanded Mordechai: Gather all the Jews
and fast for me for three days.
I will go to the king as I have been asked,
and if I perish, I perish.
For three days she fasted, asking her petition.
Who can recount the miracle of redemption?
Gracious and compassionate—indeed You commanded to remember:
a war for You against Amalek from generation to generation.
Heart of the world, You concealed Yourself in hiding,
and the kingdom descended to the feet of falsehood.
Master of the world, Your greatness is unfathomable—
overturn, overturn, and let the crown return to its head.
As long as deep in the heart
a Jewish soul still yearns,
and eastward, to the frontiers,
an eye looks toward Zion.
No, no—our prayer will not be rejected before our Father in Heaven,
that He heal our unity from the enslavement of the heart and the exile of the eye.
No, no—our prayer will not be rejected before our Father in Heaven,
that He restore our love to the Land of Zion, Jerusalem,
that He restore our love to the land, the desire of the eyes.
