I was a child in Bible class
and the teacher said: open your books
in Isaiah chapter 2
we will now read verse 4
עוד אני זוכר את התרגשות הרגע
זה פסוק שלא אשכח
וגם היום עובר בי רטט חום
כמו פעם בשיעור תנ"ך
I still remember the excitement of the moment
This is a verse I will not forget
And even today a warm tremor passes through me
like back then in Bible class
"וכיתתו חרבותם לאתים
וחניתותיהם למזמרות"
"לא ישא גוי אל גוי חרב
ולא ילמדו עוד מלחמה"
"And they shall beat their swords into plowshares
and their spears into pruning hooks"
"Nation shall not lift up sword against nation
neither shall they learn war any more"
בסוף החושך אור
ואם נזרע – נקצור
בחיינו, בימינו
יתממש פסוק בזה הדור
At the end of the darkness, light
and if we sow — we will reap
in our lives, in our days
the verse will be fulfilled in this generation
